imitating the dog (ITD) has been creating and touring original performance work since 1998.  Pete Brooks, Andrew Quick and Simon Wainwright are the Artistic Directors and their work has built a company with a unique reputation in the UK, Europe and internationally.


imitating the dog creates outstanding work that challenges and connects with audiences, tests theatrical conventions and brings high-end design, technical and thematic ambition to audiences at small and medium-scales.

Learning is at the heart of the company’s ethos. The company initiates, tests and shares its creative process and technological expertise with students, practitioners and community groups through its extensive and focused education programme.
Regular collaborators with the company include Designer, Laura Hopkins, Alice Booth and a core-performing ensemble including Morven Macbeth, Laura Atherton, Anna Wilson-Hall and Matt Prendergast.

imitating the dog productions have toured throughout the UK including West Yorkshire Playhouse, Warwick Arts Centre, The Lowry, Manchester, Theatre Royal, Winchester, the Northcott Theatre, Exeter, Mayfest, Bristol, and Theatre Royal, York. In Europe the company have been invited to perform at the Made in Britain Festival in Saint-Etienne, France, and have also toured to Germany, Poland, Italy, Bulgaria, Armenia, The Ukraine, and Georgia and also in Brazil, Beirut Spring Festival, Lebanon and Taiwan. The British Council showcased the company’s work at the Edinburgh Festival in 2011 and 2013 with The Zero Hour which will be visiting Batumi, Georgia in summer 2014.
